What is a breast lift surgery?
How is a breast lift surgery performed?
Breast lift surgery is an aesthetic surgical procedure which, as it name implies, is designed to lift the breasts from a droopy and deflated look to a full and firm look.
The common reasons for breast lift surgery are to restore breast fullness lost after pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight loss, and improve self-image.
There are several surgical techniques for performing this surgery and after meeting with our experts you will receive the detailed explanation that suits you personally.
At the same time, we can say that in each one of the techniques the goals are similar: Remove excess skin, shape and tighten the breasts upwards and also adjust the areola – as required and needed.
Before surgery
The preparation for the surgery begin with a meeting with the surgeon of your choice.
several parameters will be examined in this meeting. These will determine the nature of the surgery, including the prolapse degree, the shape of the areolas and nipples, the characteristics of the skin in the area, and more.

Post-surgery
Usually, you will be able to return home and even walk on your won on the same day as the surgery. Most of our patients also feel well enough to leave home after a day or two.
As with any surgery, you may feel pain and swelling – these are completely normal and will go away in a week or two. Of course, in the first days after surgery, you should avoid strenuous physical activity as much as possible.
You will likely be asked to wear a support bra for a while, but once the implants are fixed in place (sometimes they will seem a little high at first) you will be able to purchase new bras to match your current measurements.
Additional guidelines following breast lift surgery:
- Make sure you take antibiotics according to the order you receive.
- You will be instructed to sleep on your back for approx. 4 weeks.
- It is recommended to be patient and return to sports or strenuous activity only 4-5 months after the surgery, including picking up small children for example, you should add this to your considerations.
- Continue and undergo ultrasound and mammography scans as before the procedure. Also, it is advisable to add implants exams every once in a while.
- Pregnancies, breastfeeding, and significant weight fluctuations may change the shape of the breasts.
Breast lift surgery - possible complications
As in any surgical procedure, breast lift surgery is not free of possible complications.
At the same time, of course, the choice of the operating doctor from every aspect has an effect on this possibility. In any case, you will receive a detailed explanation and methods of prevention before and after the surgery.
Possible complications:
- Unsightly scars
- Lack of symmetry
- Lack of sensation
- Infection
- Bleeding and hemorrhages – that are not diminishing and/or increasing.
- Edemas – not disappearing after 4-6 months.
- Venous thrombosis
- Necrosis
